Weekly Rundown: Sept. 10, 2017

Check out our new feature to keep you up-to-speed on all things Women’s March Minnesota! Each week we’ll give you a rundown of the most important topics of the week on social media, as well as how we’ve been active in the community and future opportunities to show up.

DACA

The White House announced that the DACA program will end in 6 months. Let's make it clear what we feel about this!

Labor Day

Women's March Minnesota believes in an economy powered by transparency, accountability, security and equity. All women should be paid equitably, with access to affordable childcare, sick days, healthcare, paid family leave, and healthy work environments. All workers—including domestic and farm workers, undocumented and migrant workers—must have the right to organize and fight for a living minimum wage.

Climate Change

Harvey and now Irma are devastating communities across the country. We must act to weaken this extreme weather. Contact your MN representative to move this renewable energy bill out of committee: Demand 50% Renewable Energy by 2030

Campus Safety

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos just made campuses safer for rapists. We need to safeguard survivors rights. This week, DeVos decried Title IX as a ‘failed system’ on campus sexual assault and vowed to replace it. Title IX requires schools to not discriminate on the basis of sex, and is interpreted by courts to require schools to address sexual violence among students. #StopBetsy #DefendTitleIX

Food for Thought

"Rather than critique from afar, come out of your homes, follow those who are closest to the pain, and help us to redeem this country, and yourselves, in the process."  NYT – Waiting for a Perfect Protest?  This is why Women's March MN will keep "marching."

We will continue to protest with our allies and partners, and recognize opportunities for women to step out of their comfort zones to show up, to have messy conversations, and to follow the lead of those that have been in the movement well before we organized here in Minnesota.
